LOCATION?

FIRST PHOTO SHOOT - CONTENTS PAGE AND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

I have narrowed down my location ideas into my top three favorites; Camden high street, Brick Lane and Portobello Road. I think all three of these location would be perfect to capture my photographs to be displayed on my contents page and double page spread. In order to help me decide which location to visit I texted three people within my target audience age range to find out their opinion. They all thought Brick Lane was the best location for my magazine genre. They thought it was the best as it is where they associate indie music with. They also thought it was a 'current and contemporary location' where there would be many places I could photograph such as 'boutiques', 'vintage shops' and 'graffiti'. I think these features of Brick Lane would make great backdrops for my model especially street art/graffiti as this would really represent the culture of the location and my music genre. I also strongly agree that this location will have a good atmosphere that will hopefully be conveyed in my photographs. My target audience should recognize this iconic location and be instantly reminded of indie music. It could be argued that the other two locations are not predominately related to my genre, for example Camden is more Gothic or heavy metal themed and Portobello Road is not strongly music influenced. Due to this and the feedback received I have chosen Brick Lane to be my location. My initial ideas for possible photographs to be taken at the location are of my model interacting with her surroundings by looking at the market stalls, trying on accessories/clothes, walking down the street and looking in vintage shops at records or something
                                                                                    similar.

SECOND PHOTO SHOOT - FRONT COVER

I have decided to capture my main image that cover my front cover against a plain white backdrop  in a photography studio. Here I will have enough background space to use and access to equipment such as tripods and artificial studio lighting. My model will be positioned in front of the white backdrop centrally within the frame. I am using a a plain white background so that all the attention is drawn onto the model and not distracted by any background information. However when taking the photographs I must make sure I leave some space around the model so that later when I design the front cover I have room to insert coverlines and masthead. I may use studio lighting to increase the brightness of photographs which make the colours within the image more prominent. I will probably use a tripod too to ensure my photographs are perfectly straight and the model is boldly and centrally within the frame.

THIRD PHOTO SHOOT - CONTENTS PAGE

When up London visiting Brick Lane I will be sure to also take photographs to feature on my contents page. This could include exterior shots of London landscapes such as Trafalgar Square, London Bridge and Waterloo. These locations are all iconic where the readers would instantly recognize them. I will then link an article from the magazine that is about London e.g. London culture or places to visit. I also had the idea of taking a picture of a music venue where popular indie bands play such as Alexandra Palace and then advertise a competition winning free gig tickets or informing the reader about tour dates.
As well as capturing locations I will also capture other models who will be dressed to look like indie artists to show that my magazine will includes a range bands. The model's will be posing towards the camera against a background such as a brick wall or black backdrop. I will perform the photo shoot during week 4 or 5 of January of my schedule.
